IMF Global Growth Forecasts: Timing and Uncertainty
The International Monetary Fund releases its updated outlook for global economic growth twice a year, in April and October. This process follows a strict timeline that begins months in advance, leaving no room to adjust the schedule when unforeseen events occur. This rigidity creates challenges, especially during periods of uncertainty.
Currently, issuing a global forecast may seem impractical. Should the ongoing conflict conclude within weeks—as I anticipate—its impact on growth projections for 2026 and 2027 would likely be minimal, perhaps only warranting a brief mention. However, if the situation persists, the consequences for economic growth could be more significant. Ultimately, the future remains uncertain, and even the IMF cannot predict the outcome with confidence.
