‘India Is in a Bear Market’: Marc Faber Says 20-Year Bull Run Is Over

The Indian stock market has been facing a difficult phase over the past two years. Investors have been raising concerns as the market has failed to offer meaningful gains. According to Marc Faber, this weakness signals a potential shift in the market. He stated that the bull market that began in 2003 is over, urging investors to move their funds out of equities and into cash.

As the Indian stock market continues to struggle to deliver returns, Marc Faber stated that the industry has entered a bear market. The stock market peaked in September 2024, and since then, the prices have been moving up and down. This, according to Faber, indicates that the bull market has ended.

Notably, Faber stated that the long bull market that started in 2003 has now ended. As global markets face increased pressure, Faber believes that the Indian stock market will also continue to struggle. Further strengthening his point, he highlighted recent reports that revealed South Korea, Indonesia, and India have faced considerable falls from their recent peaks.

Amid these concerns, Marc Faber advises investors to reduce their exposure to stocks and keep more money in cash. As global markets face growing uncertainty, investors may find it difficult to earn strong returns from equities, stated Faber.

Considering foreign investors, Faber stated that they might increase investments in global stock markets and reduce exposure to Indian equities. According to him, this shift could add more pressure to the Indian stock market. The latest reports also claim the foreign investors are increasingly moving their funds out of India.

However, Faber hasn’t suggested avoiding every stock. For him, some companies could still perform well even when the broader market falls. For example, he sees potential opportunities in utility stocks and high-dividend stocks, especially when a US recession pushes interest rates lower.

Further, Marc Faber highlighted his approach to US Treasury bonds. He sees yields as an attractive investment option amid the current uncertainty. 10-year US Treasury bonds could deliver returns of around 10% over the next 1-2 years. He also expects 10-year or 30-year Treasury bonds to gain if economic conditions lead to lower interest rates.

In addition to bonds, Faber also favors oil because of the current geopolitical situation. Compared to gold and silver, oil remains cheap. At the same time, investors have limited exposure to the energy sector. But he added that he continues to hold gold and platinum.

Meanwhile, Faber remains less optimistic about artificial intelligence (AI) stocks and semiconductor companies. He argued that the AI bubble has already burst. According to him, the prevailing negative sentiment is likely to continue. He referred to the weakness in South Korean markets and semiconductor stocks, and expressed concerns about cloud computing companies like CoreWeave. Thus, he urged investors to remain cautious about AI-related stocks.

Overall, Marc Faber’s remarks suggest that investors would have to brace themselves for tough times ahead in the Indian stock market. He stated that the bull market has ended and the industry has moved into the bearish phase. While he recommends maintaining more cash and reducing equity exposure, he expresses his concerns about valuations, rising interest rates, and global economic uncertainty.

Nonetheless, his bearish outlook does not confirm that the stock market will crash soon. In selected sectors, he sees potential opportunities. At the same time, he remains cautious about some other sectors.

AI Capital Expenditure Faces a Dilemma: Accelerating Puts Pressure on Cash Flow, Slowing Down Undermines the Growth Narrative

Nomura Securities believes that the AI investment narrative is mired in an internal contradiction: if hyperscale cloud providers accelerate capital expenditures, their free cash flow will continue to be drained, raising doubts about the sustainability of financing; if they slow down, it would indicate a loss of confidence in AI demand and profitability expectations. Both paths lead to sell-offs. The crowded long positions accumulated during the AI agent boom in September have triggered large-scale stop-losses under negative catalysts, spreading to US Treasury bonds, exchange rates, and commodity markets, resulting in systemic deleveraging.

AI trading collapse: Will Anthropic postpone its "Super IPO"? The "scheduled listing date" in mid-November is approaching.

The time window is extremely tight—according to SEC regulations, the S-1 filing must be submitted by next week at the latest, and prediction markets estimate the probability of a listing within the year at around 80%. The sell-off in the AI sector has cast a shadow over the listing prospects, and the previous plan to go public in September has already fallen through. Several market participants say that Anthropic may face pressure to delay its listing, but some analysts point out that the company's urgent need for capital may drive it to stick to the original plan.
