Reuters, October 1 - According to The Wall Street Journal on Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter, Mattel (MAT.O) has been privately discussing an acquisition offer from Authentic Brands Group, which could value the Barbie doll manufacturer at about $6 billion or more.
The report stated that Authentic Brands Group is negotiating an acquisition offer that could value Mattel at more than $20 per share. Mattel's current market capitalization is about $3.62 billion, and its stock price rose approximately 4% in afternoon trading.
Mattel and Authentic Brands Group have not immediately responded to Reuters' requests for comment.
On Wednesday, Mattel announced that its Chief Executive Officer Ynon Kreiz will step down from his position (link), after which its share price closed about 4% lower at $12.66.
