04:07 AM EDT, 10/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- NextEra Energy (NEE) has been selected, alongside Related Companies and Lewis Energy Group, by the US Department of Commerce and the government of South Korea to take part in developing Project Star, a $22.3 billion energy infrastructure campus in Encinal, Texas, the company said late Wednesday. The project will include 6.47 gigawatts of natural gas-fired power generation to support an adjacent 5-gigawatt data center campus, with excess electricity expected to be supplied to the grid, according to the companies. NextEra Energy Resources and Related Companies will develop, build, and operate the power facilities, while Lewis Energy will provide related infrastructure, including natural gas, the companies said. The companies said the project is expected to create about 8,400 jobs during the peak construction phase and is anticipated to come online in 2029, subject to regulatory approvals.
