John Ternus, who became CEO of Apple only a few weeks ago, has already begun reorganizing the iPhone maker to accelerate product development, expand its range of devices, and create a leaner, more engineering-focused company. Ternus has discussed these plans internally with colleagues—marking the first time the former hardware engineering chief has revealed his vision to reshape the company since Tim Cook’s 15-year tenure as CEO. Early approaches currently under consideration include reducing dependence on the traditional spring and autumn product launch schedule and cutting some middle management positions to flatten the hierarchy between engineers and top executives. Ternus has said Apple must bring products to market faster and adopt a more experimental strategy in the age of artificial intelligence to maintain competitiveness. Cost-cutting measures are already underway at Apple. Ternus is also seeking new sources of revenue and exploring how to squeeze more profit out of existing products, especially as the company’s services business experiences slower growth.
