- The energy data agency Vortexa said in response to an inquiry on Tuesday that oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz are increasing and are now at 65% to 70% of pre-war levels.
- This data covers all oil products, including liquefied petroleum gas and refined products such as gasoline. According to Vortexa, about 80% of crude oil and condensate now pass through the Strait compared to pre-war times.
- Vortexa set the average weekly crude oil transport at 11.2 million barrels per day, a figure previously reported by The Wall Street Journal.
- Kpler data analyst Amena Bakr also reported a recovery in Gulf oil exports. According to Kpler data, the major Middle Eastern oil-producing countries exported 12.8 million barrels per day in September, down from 18.8 million barrels per day in February.
- Since the end of February, when the US and Israel began strikes against Iran, Iranian military actions and threats have largely disrupted passage through the Strait.
- Vortexa attributes the apparent increase in energy shipments since the end of July partly to the expansion of so-called "shuttle fleets." According to analysts and US media reports, tanker ships protected by the US Navy are shuttling through the Strait, transferring oil from Gulf loading terminals to tankers waiting outside the Strait.
- Vortexa also stated that the increase in Saudi Arabian oil exports has contributed to the rise in overall export volumes.
- Overall, although traffic through the Strait is recovering, it remains significantly below pre-war levels. The market mood remains sensitive to the risk of supply disruption, and subsequent attention will focus on whether shipments can continue to recover and on progress in US-Iran negotiations.
