Update: Apple, Amazon Face Renewed UK Consumer Lawsuit

08:19 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Amazon's response in the fourth and fifth paragraphs) Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN) are facing a renewed legal battle in the UK after Britain's Competition Appeal Tribunal allowed part of a consumer lawsuit against the companies to proceed, the tribunal said Monday. The lawsuit alleges the tech companies entered into an agreement in 2018 that limited the sale and advertising of Apple products on Amazon's UK marketplace, resulting in consumers paying higher prices. The portion of the case allowed to proceed could be valued at 289 million pounds ($383.2 million) to 306 million pounds, including interest, according to the claimant, as shown in the tribunal document. "We welcome the Tribunal's decision to refuse certification of the majority of this claim," an Amazon spokesperson told MT Newswires in an emailed statement. "The remaining element of the claim can only proceed if various conditions are met, and it remains to be seen whether the claimant will choose to continue on that basis.
