  1. Some institutions have warned that the world is moving toward shortages of copper and silver.
  2. The reasoning is that concerns over US tariffs are prompting silver and copper to be moved to the US before tariffs are enacted, resulting in a decline in liquidity stockpiles in regions outside the US, such as London.
  3. Subsequent inflows of investment demand, even small-scale purchases, can easily drive prices higher.
  4. In addition, most silver is a by-product of copper, lead, and zinc mining, so even if silver prices rise, it is difficult to rapidly increase supply.
  5. Based on current net import demand, US domestic silver reserves are only sufficient for about five years.
  6. In other words, the problem is not the absence of silver, but the amount of freely circulating silver in the market is decreasing.
  7. From a market perspective, expectations of tariffs and inventory shifts may exacerbate regional supply and demand mismatches. Going forward, it is important to monitor the implementation pace of US tariffs, inventory changes in London, and the guidance of silver lease rates on prices.
