Elon Musk reveals Colossus 2 expansion timeline: Nvidia (NVDA.US) chip count may more than double by the end of the year
Elon Musk stated that his xAI company's AI computing cluster, Colossus 2, could more than double the current number of Nvidia (NVDA.US) chips by the end of this year.
According to Jinse Finance APP, Elon Musk stated that his xAI company’s AI computing cluster, Colossus 2, may more than double its current number of NVIDIA (NVDA.US) chips by the end of this year. xAI has now been merged into SpaceX (SPCX.US).
The billionaire provided the most detailed timeline yet for the Memphis area cluster expansion. He is accelerating the scaling up of computing power.
Musk posted on X that Colossus 2 currently has 110,000 NVIDIA GB200 chips and 440,000 GB300 chips. He also noted that 220,000 GB300 chips will be brought online next week, with another 220,000 expected to be added in November. If “luck holds,” another 220,000 chips could go live by the end of December.
The division previously stated it plans to equip the Memphis facility with 1 million graphics processing units (GPUs) by 2026.
Reportedly, in February 2026, SpaceX completed its acquisition of xAI in an all-stock deal. In May, SpaceX signed a cloud service agreement with leading AI model company Anthropic, which will utilize computing power from Colossus and Colossus 2’s data centers. In addition, SpaceX has successively signed computing power cooperation agreements with Google, Reflection AI, and others.
