Union Pacific Receives First Two Battery-Electric Locomotives for Testing

12:23 PM EDT, 09/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Union Pacific (UNP) said Wednesday that two Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies (WAB)-built battery-electric locomotives have arrived in Southern California for testing in rail yard operations. The locomotives are the first of four FLXdrive units ordered by Union Pacific. The remaining two are scheduled to arrive in October, completing a fleet that will operate in the Greater Los Angeles area.
