Uber Subject to South Korean Antitrust Review Over Delivery Hero Purchase Deal

04:46 AM EDT, 09/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Uber Technologies (UBER) is under preliminary antitrust review in South Korea regarding its planned acquisition of Delivery Hero SE, the KFTC said Tuesday. The US technology company intends to acquire all shares of Delivery Hero via a tender offer set to close in H2 2027 and submitted a voluntary request for a preliminary review, the agency said. The deal would grant the taxi platform operator management control of Woowa Brothers, which is in charge of Baedal Minjok, the top food delivery service in South Korea, it said. The commission will assess whether combining taxi hailing and food delivery restricts competition in both markets, the KFTC added. The KFTC said the deal could enable Uber and Baedal Minjok to integrate their services and deepen cross-platform engagement.
