US Approves Potential $24.3 Billion F-35 Sale to Saudi Arabia

MT newswireMT newswire2026/09/18 09:33
05:33 AM EDT, 09/18/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US State Department approved a potential $24.3 billion sale of 48 Lockheed Martin (LMT) F-35 fighter jets and related equipment to Saudi Arabia, according to a congressional notification issued Thursday. The package also includes 49 Pratt & Whitney F135 engines, communications and navigation equipment, electronic warfare systems, spare parts, training and logistics services, the agency said. Lockheed Martin and RTX's (RTX) Pratt & Whitney would be the main contractors. The State Department said the sale would support US national security and strengthen Saudi Arabia's ability to respond to current and future threats. The administration said the proposed sale would not change the military balance in the region. It added that the notification represents a proposed sale rather than a completed transaction.
