Celo appoints Mento Labs co-founder as Head of Stablecoin Business, USAT to launch natively
Foresight News reports that Celo Core Co. has announced the appointment of Dr. Markus Franke as Head of Global Stablecoin Business, responsible for advancing Celo's on-chain stablecoin strategy, including expanding partnerships, issuing new stable assets, and driving institutional adoption. Markus previously co-founded Mento Labs. Additionally, Celo will support the issuance of native USAT (a US dollar stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank and supported by Tether).
Mento Labs was previously spun off from Celo’s core development company cLabs in 2022, focusing on stablecoins pegged to local currencies in emerging markets. It led the issuance of more than 10 local digital currencies, including the first Brazilian Real-pegged stablecoin BRLm.
