Polygon launches liquid staking token sPOL, unlocking liquidity for POL stakers
Foresight News reports that Polygon has announced the launch of its native liquid staking token sPOL, aimed at introducing over 3.6 billion staked POL (approximately $330 million in idle staking capital) into the DeFi ecosystem. Users can stake POL at a 1:1 ratio to receive sPOL, which accumulates staking rewards over time and can be used for trading, collateral, providing liquidity, or participating in DeFi yield strategies.
Polygon stated that sPOL is the first and currently only liquid staking platform (LST) built by Polygon Labs, and has been audited by ChainSecurity and Certora. On the first day of sPOL issuance, the Polygon treasury will provide $10 million in initial funding as liquidity seed, to be gradually increased by another $90 million, reaching a total of $100 million. The Uniswap V4 AMM pool will be available at launch.
