Report: European Retail and Consumer Goods Sectors Remain the Most Under Pressure
According to Golden Ten Data on March 30, the latest Weil European Distress Index, which measures the degree of financial distress and default risk for various business sectors, shows that the retail and consumer goods industry remains the most pressured sector. The report states that rising operating costs, weakening consumer demand and more cautious spending, as well as intensified international competition, are all putting pressure on profitability. The industrial sector ranks second; recent Iran conflicts and their effects on surrounding regions may further erode business confidence. In addition, the infrastructure, utilities, and power industries are also affected, with their distress levels rising to the highest since the pandemic. Neil Devaney of Weil said, “This is crucial, as the aforementioned sectors are all capital-intensive and of systemic importance.”
