Malaysia: Positive investment prospects bolster Ringgit – UOB
Malaysia’s Investment Surge and Policy Enhancements
According to UOB’s Global Economics & Markets Research team, led by Julia Goh and Loke Siew Ting, Malaysia is set to achieve a historic MYR426.7 billion in approved investments for 2025. The focus is shifting toward advanced sectors such as digital technology, electrical and electronics (E&E), chemicals, and next-generation mobility initiatives. The research notes that recent policy improvements, including the introduction of the New Incentive Framework, support a positive economic and Ringgit outlook over the next 12 to 24 months.
Quality Investments and Forward-Looking Policies
Malaysia’s investment achievements for 2025 are not only substantial in size but also demonstrate a move toward higher-value projects, particularly in digital, E&E, chemicals, and innovative mobility sectors.
Looking ahead to 2026, the country’s investment environment is expected to remain robust, even as global challenges persist.
Amid worldwide uncertainties—such as energy market fluctuations tied to Middle Eastern conflicts—Malaysia’s strategy of diversifying across regions, expanding renewable energy, and strengthening key industries (including E&E, petrochemicals, electric vehicles, and digital services) makes it an attractive and stable destination for long-term, high-quality capital.
The nation’s positive prospects are driven by ongoing advancements in digital infrastructure, the growth of high-value manufacturing, and effective project execution. The implementation of the New Incentive Framework and updated industrial policies further clarify the regulatory landscape, encouraging productivity, innovation, and sustainable practices.
Overall, the outlook for the coming 12 to 24 months remains optimistic, provided that policy reforms continue to be effectively implemented.

On Tuesday, the US 30-year Treasury yield rose to 5.62%, reaching its highest level since 2002, while the 10-year yield briefly touched 5.29%. High oil prices intensifying inflation expectations, robust economic data supporting rate hike expectations, concerns about fiscal sustainability, and a surge in corporate bond supply have collectively driven this round of sell-off. Historical seasonality indicates that September and October are typically the weakest months for US Treasuries, and volatility risk remains high going forward.
