Figma partners with Anthropic to turn AI-generated code into editable designs

Key Points

  • Figma is collaborating with Anthropic to develop AI programming tools, integrating Claude Code.
  • Software stocks are being sold off due to the disruptive potential of AI tools in the industry.
  • Figma will release its financial report on Wednesday, and its stock price has fallen about 85% from its 52-week high.

Figma is working with Anthropic and has launched a feature called “Code to Canvas”, which converts code generated by AI tools like Claude Code into fully editable designs within Figma.

This feature builds a bridge between AI programming tools and Figma workflows, allowing users who create usable interfaces through AI assistants to directly import their work into the Figma canvas.

Teams can optimize designs on the canvas, compare solutions in parallel, and reach consensus on design decisions.

This move reflects a common industry view: intelligent programming tools like Claude Code have not eliminated the need for design, but instead have made design more important. However, the risk is that Figma is building a better entrance to a "highway" it no longer controls.

If AI tools continue to advance, teams may eventually completely skip the design optimization stage.

Anthropic's related products are at the core of what Wall Street traders call the “SaaSpocalypse”—a massive sell-off of software service stocks.

The iShares Software ETF has entered bear market territory, and companies like Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Intuit have all seen double-digit declines in their stock prices.

Figma has not been spared either.

Since its IPO last summer, the stock has plummeted, swept up in this indiscriminate sell-off that has impacted all companies with SaaS business models. Figma will release its financial report after the close on Wednesday.

Figma's stock has dropped about 85% from the 52-week high of $142.92 reached in August.
