Australian Dollar Forecast: AUD/USD Surge Faces Potential Volatility Near Highs
AUD/USD Rally Shows Signs of Slowing
The Australian dollar has started the year on a strong note, marking its fourth straight week of gains and, at one point, trading over 20% above its lowest point in April. Despite this impressive performance, there are indications that the momentum may be fading. Recent weekly charts reveal upper wicks, momentum indicators appear stretched, and increasing geopolitical tensions could make further advances more challenging.
With market expectations for both the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Federal Reserve closely matched, the current upward trend in AUD/USD may soon lose steam, potentially leading to sideways movement rather than a continued clear climb. At the beginning of the week, the Aussie dollar outperformed most major currencies, with the exception of the Japanese yen (JPY) and Swiss franc (CHF). However, its strength may be tested in the sessions ahead.
