Morgan Stanley: AI-Driven Sell-Off of Wealth Management Institution Stocks May Be Overdone
Morgan Stanley stated that the recent wave of AI-related sell-offs among European wealth management firms appears somewhat excessive. These firms will be able to leverage artificial intelligence technology to boost productivity, and Fineco was specifically mentioned as one of the potential beneficiaries of AI.
Analysts Marina Massuti and Giulia Aurora Miotto noted that artificial intelligence will help wealth management institutions reach more clients, including those with less wealth, by automating "routine client reception and administrative tasks" without the need for additional resources.
They said the market reaction reflects growing investor concerns about the impact of AI tools on financial advisory fees and competition. Fineco ("overweight" rating) is expected to benefit from AI, and its stock price has been overly volatile, given the bank's current use of technology, proprietary data, and "one-stop" services.
The analysts added that for UBS ("underweight" rating) and Julius Baer ("underweight" rating), it is "still too early" for AI news to negatively impact their stock prices, as "the human touch" remains crucial for client relationship management, especially for high-net-worth clients.
