Argentinian crypto scam suspect arrested in Venezuela after fleeing with $56 million worth of bitcoin
According to Odaily, Venezuelan police have arrested Rosa María González, a suspect in the Generación Zoe fraud case, in San Cristóbal. The scam resulted in investor losses of at least $120 million. Leonardo Cositorto, the head of Generación Zoe, previously stated that Rosa María González fled with 611 bitcoins after the project's collapse in mid-2022, which were worth approximately $56 million at the time. Investigations revealed that Generación Zoe attracted investors by promising returns of up to 7.5%, but it was actually a Ponzi scheme. Rosa María González had claimed that the trading algorithm she developed had quantum security features and could deliver monthly returns of up to 70%. During her time on the run in Venezuela, she was suspected of orchestrating new fraudulent projects, promising a minimum investment of $1,000 and a monthly return of 5%. Currently, diplomatic relations between Argentina and Venezuela are tense, making the extradition process difficult.
