Colombia’s Central Bank Surprises Markets with Significant Rate Increase

The central bank of Colombia has unexpectedly lifted its key interest rate by a full percentage point, bringing it to 10.25%. This bold move, which marks the first rate rise in almost three years, caught financial experts off guard and highlighted sharp disagreements among the bank’s leadership. The government quickly voiced its disapproval of the decision.

Most analysts had forecasted a much smaller adjustment. According to a Reuters survey of 26 experts, the majority expected only a half-point increase to 9.75%, while just one predicted the substantial 100-basis-point jump that was ultimately implemented. The central bank’s assertive action reflects growing concerns over inflation and signals a strong commitment to tackling economic challenges.

What does Trump's "AI self-regulation" mean? Jensen Huang achieves a major victory, leads the charge questioning Anthropic's Amodei behind the scenes

Trump promotes AI "self-regulation," which appears to enhance safety but actually paves the way for the expansion of computing power: requirements for testing, auditing, and monitoring as part of "security compliance" will generate new demands for inference and optical interconnects, making Nvidia potentially the biggest winner. Jensen Huang even joined forces with Zuckerberg to oppose strict regulation, and directly questioned Anthropic's Amodei about his excessive public statements regarding AI risks.
